ANDY ROMAN • ELECTROACOUSTIC RESEARCH ATELIER

Welcome to the Atelier. This digital space is not a shop, it is not a catalog, and it does not collect orders for serial products. It is a living archive and a cultural manifesto dedicated to pure research within the realm of vanguard thermionic amplification.

The Cessation of Commercial Market Dynamics

After more than twenty years of activity in a public workshop, in 2026 we made a radical and definitive decision: to permanently cease all forms of serial production, commercial distribution, or standard customization.

The world of guitar amplification has been stuck for decades in commercial dogmas and obsolete schematics from the 1950s and 1960s. These are perpetuated by a market that pursues industrial cost-cutting and compromises at the lowest denominator, under the pretense that the historic tones heard on classic albums were the exclusive merit of those circuitries. We fiercely reject the logic of cheap replicas, printed circuit board (PCB) clones, and false technological myths — such as the widespread misunderstandings surrounding sag dynamics, which structurally resides within the physics of the Output Transformer (OT) and the reflected impedance ratio, and not in the trivial voltage drop of the power supply line.

The Atelier was founded to do the exact opposite: to explore the boundaries of acoustic physics and esoteric electronics without constraints of budget, time, or material availability.

The Design Philosophy: The MIL-SPEC Legacy

Our One-Off works (such as the Diablo Eye and the new Azzenanù 22) are conceived according to the strictest criteria of mid-century analog engineering.

We categorically ban printed circuit boards (PCBs). Every single one of our creations comes to life through a three-dimensional 3D Point-to-Point air wiring, executed entirely by hand on structural mechanical terminal strips. This is the direct application of military protocols and high-precision vintage measurement instrumentation (Tektronix, Hewlett-Packard): a technique that exploits air as the ideal dielectric, completely cancels out parasitic capacitances, and guarantees atomic structural stability.

We do not build reproduction machines: we shape reactive instruments that interface biologically with the musician’s fingers, where the power supply, the output transformers, and the dynamic operating points are shielded against any fluctuation to restore the background "acoustic blackness" and the micro-dynamics of touch intact.

Access and Interaction

The Atelier is a strictly private and restricted space. We do not reply to inquiries for standard quotes, modifications on commercial amplifiers, or general consulting.

We address exclusively a very narrow circle of artists, professionals, and researchers capable of comprehending the scientific rigor hidden behind a three-dimensional architecture, and who are looking for a unique, definitive, and non-replicable masterpiece.

If you believe that sound is a matter of marketing slogans or financial saving, the industrial market already has thousands of answers for you. If you seek the physics of the flow applied to art, you may request contact.

The Research Paths

The work carried out over more than a third of a century on the workbench is articulated through different areas of scientific and luthier inquiry. We invite connoisseurs, musicians, and cultists of analog physics to explore the main menu of the website to access the rooms dedicated to our electroacoustic lineage:
