The Genesis of the Flow
The acoustic research of Andy Roman is not the product of a marketing strategy, nor is it built upon tracing standard industrial schematics. Its origin dates back to the early 1990s—specifically 1992—sparked by an electrical epiphany known as Costruire Hi-Fi.From that initial editorial ferment grew a scientific obsession: the deep-dive study of acoustic loudspeakers, electromechanical parameters, and the applied physics governing moving masses and wave propagation.
Built upon a solid, rigorous foundation in electronic engineering and applied physics, the author’s musical DNA was forged and nurtured within the realm of High-End esoteric audio. During the second half of the 1990s, pivotal encounters occurred that would permanently alter his perception of matter: high-level technical exchanges with legendary figures such as Ken Ishiwata and Master Imai (Audio Tekne), followed by the profound guidance and close friendship of Gianfranco Pellas. Rather than a schooling in basic electronics—scientific fundamentals the author had already strictly mastered—this was an initiation into pure Sound: the absolute eradication of phase distortions, the structural stability of iron, and an uncompromising respect for the integrity of the analog message.
Being a guitarist himself triggered the definitive short-circuit. Clashing with the highly acclaimed industrial systems of the era, the author keenly perceived the insurmountable limitations of mass production: congested sonics, artificial compression, forced midrange frequencies, and a lower-mid response plagued by a frustrating, muddy "rubbery effect."
Above all, total dynamics were missing. Not dynamics in terms of raw volume, but the biological capacity of a low-volume arpeggio to make you jump out of your seat at the slightest change in plectrum pressure against the string.
The technological transplant was inevitable. Infusing the uncompromising rigor of esoteric High-End Audio into the engine of vacuum-tube guitar systems is the act of rebellion that gives life to our One-Off creations today. The author’s history is not a ledger of dates; it is a signature permanently imprinted within the "acoustic blackness" and the lightning-fast responsiveness of every single three-dimensional air-wired architecture born on this bench.
